Put your best croc forward

Places in Joburg to tour by foot are few and far between… so when one comes up why not make the most of it and put the rubber to the road… and why choose Pirelli’s or Bridgestone when you can have Crocs, I mean the decision is simple!

A few places I think are absolutely necessary for any Joburger to visit by foot are:

  • The Johannesburg Zoo, an absolute adventure for a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city. For a mere R61 per adult during the week and on weekdays and even better for students during the week R38 on showing of your student card – it’s a definite one not to miss!!
  • Haartebeespoort Dam, I have fond memories of jumping in the car when I was a little girl, my Dad pushing up the volume of Ace of Base, handing me the Tab he had just bought (no idea why he thought I liked this) and heading to Harties for the day… Why not take a walk down memory lane yourself, visiting the markets at Chameleon Village, or getting an ice cream and watching the waterfall from the bridge? Best of all on a Wednesday morning Margaret Roberts is open where her daughter makes the most wonderful food with all natural ingredients, and you can take a wonderful walk through her lavender scented shop!
  • The Spar Womens Race is coming up in October, why not take the leap of 5km or 10 and take a walk up and down Jan Smuts?? For R70 per person for the 5km and R85 for the 10km it’s a bit pricey but a great day out – however men if you want to participate in this one you need to embrace your inner Madonna and rock that cone bra!
  • The Bryanston Organic Market is a wonderful place to start your Thursday or Saturday morning, where you will find organic produce, organic clothing and just about everything your natural heart desires… ps: the homemade pizza’s and freshly squeezed orange juice is amazing!
  • Westpack, okay so this is random and not quite a tourist attraction but to me its one of the places one has to visit before their final days on this planet… with plastic containers to fill every need, party and cupcake décor, toys for big and small and everything one could ask for under one roof – it’s a must! It’s also attached to Lifestyle Garden Centre, which is the most beautiful place to mosey around on a Saturday!
  • Christmas Adventures… okay so this one is only one you can adventure to from around the 15th of December but it’s absolutely one you have to visit when it’s time! In Rand Park Ridge, lies a house that is beige and beautiful for 11 months of the year, for the last month of the year it spends its time being pride of holiday cheer, where I’m sure you can see it from the moon, Ken Paley a resident on this road makes his home into a Christmas wonderland, whilst collecting donations for charity as well as toys for the less fortunate, it’s a must see!!
  • One that’s on my list but I’ve yet to adventure is The Neighbourgoods Market… if you’d like to tell me about it and the must do’s while I’m there please comment below J

One final disclaimer… I’ve never actually worn a holey plastic sweat causing shoe (AKA a Croc) to any of these places but if you wish please go ahead…. Just don’t mention my name.

Two’s Company… Three’s a crowd?

Blog Three

Last week my two wheeled bicycle adventure around Edenvale went well, however three wheels may be a crowd. My friend Jen said it’s a good idea, it’s gonna be fun she said, trust me she said… and I did. Wheeling the trike out onto the street filled with autumn leaves sounded like a good idea but after her boyfriend showed me how it was really done, zooming down the street and doing “handbrake” looking turns into cushions of crispy leaves, I boarded the go-kart looking vehicle and froze in one position long enough for a photograph… moved a few millimetres forward and decided it was enough adventure for one day… so I got to see a beautiful view of an autumn strewed Rand Park Ridge street and that’s about it for this week… clearly I’m not doing the 94.7 cycle challenge on a trike… or at all.
